Members of the Hoskins & Company CPA team (from l. to r.: Eric Ruffin and Dawit Aynachew) were in attendance with the over 350 representatives from more than 170 Round 2 recipient organizations attending a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) workshop in Herndon, Virginia last November.  The workshop attendees learned about the importance of working with partners and developing creative applications to use on the networks made possible by BTOP grants. Attendees were also able to share best practices and lessons learned on topics like compliance, reporting, and environmental issues.   Joining Dawit and Eric were Ralph Brown (standing) and Antwon Alsobrook(seated at computer), CEO’s of Trillion Communications Corporation (Trillion) and A2D respectively.  A highly competitive $59 million grant released by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS) was awarded to Trillion to provide broadband communication service to a substantial portion of rural unserved and underserved communities in an eight county region in central Alabama.  An additional $25 million will come from private investors. A2D is a subrecipient of the grant.  Hoskins & Company has been contracted to provide the accounting, and consulting on grant administration.  You may read more about BTOP at the following link: http://www2.ntia.doc.gov/.
